Modern Senior .. Jannel's Story

Part of growing up is figuring out who you are. What are your interests? What drives you? What are your passions? Then there’s the dreaded question.. what do you want to do with the rest of your life.  Some have that figured out before they hit middle school.. and then there is the rest of us!

High school is the time where you figure out the first step of.. well, figuring out the first steps.  It’s a crazy, confusing, magical time.. with a little blood sweat and tears mixed together.

Then you get to senior year. You are expected to get in front of a camera and smile, so that a photo can represent you in the year book as a graduating senior. The photo that represents you as you are growing up and setting out on the adventure that comes next. On to bigger and better things! but.. does sitting in front of a .. black? blue? white? backdrop all dressed in dark colors.. really represent who you are in that time of your life? Sure everyone needs a nice headshot when they are graduate high school? but.. at 18.. you probably have selfies that represent you better than these professional photos.

Times are changing!  Although photographs have always been appreciated, there has never been a time when every single person had a camera attached to them at all times. Photographing your dinner at a restaurant, your dog, your surroundings, your friends, even though you may not always realize it, photographs have become an important part of everyone’s lives more so now then ever before.  So when it comes time to having professional photographs made.. why wouldn’t you make them SPECTACULAR????

In our new series … Tell Your Story… We follow seniors in their journey.  Creating photo sessions to show off the journey that has made you who you are at this time of your life.

In today’s story, we meet Jannel.

When we were talking about setting up her styled senior session, I discovered not only was she an aspiring model and attending a modeling workshop but she was also a dancer for 12 years!  That’s basically all of her life, give or take a few years..

One of my most favorite parts of my job is figuring out how to combine my love for photography with my clients passions and interests.  So with a model/dancer the pair was PERFECT!

We headed to Norfolk for this session!  Jannel brought along two outfits. A flowy pink and frilly piece that followed her movements and a fierce jumpsuit with black pumps to match. She was ready.

We went to the top of a state park with a stone pavilion, sunsets and mountains in the distance.  I think it was perfect.

Let’s illustrate her life story, shall we?
